At the age of 61, Raymond Hege underwent a genital reassignment surgery and became Rachel. She knew at the age of 4, while trying on her mother's clothes, that she was supposed to be a girl. After spending her life savings on surgeries, Rachel encountered troubles with her health insurance and obtaining the hormones that she needed in order to assist with her transition. These images reflect the confusion, struggle and sacrifice of becoming the person that you believe you are supposed to be.
